Bandaids

Jesus never used bandaids . . .It wasn't his style
To patch up a wound . . . And sit in denial

When he forgave the lame, he went further to heal
It wasn't a quick-fix. . . instead, it was real

He CANNOT and WILL NOT take cheap immitations
He desires change. He desires hearts
. . . Jesus never used bandaids

He went for something a little deeper
He brought to the table something greater
He sought to fill me with something sweeter
He died to show that he's the healer
. . . and he didn't use a bandaid

Because the sea of blood that covers the broken
Is no match for a sticky piece of gauze
No . . .Jesus never used bandaids

Your heart won't reshape with bandaids and glue
Til the healer, redeemer can captivate you
And if he ever chooses to leave you a scar
It's only to remind you where you are
That the savior of all paid the price for your soul
And set out to change you . . . making you whole

. . . But Jesus NEVER used bandaids.

****The night I wrote this, I was talking to my youth pastor's little 4 year-old daughter about Jesus. When she shares the gospel, she REALLY gets into it. While speaking about his bloody death on the cross, she said, "And they didn't give him a bandaid!" It sparked the idea for this poem
